Q. Is there water supply to the sites?

A. All our sites, apart from Riverside, have mains water supply with taps at regular intervals, and so rental costs for Riverside plots are cheaper. They use water from the River Lea and from rain water stored in water butts.

Q. Are the sites secured?

A. All sites have padlocks for the main gates for which a key deposit has to be paid, repayable when the tenant leaves.

Q. is there parking available at all locations?

A. Most sites have car parking or unrestricted street parking close by.

Q. Where DO I START?

A. There are many sources online - we found that Pinterest, YouTube vloggers and gardening forums help with advice and creativity. We’ve written a short post about some Youtubers here. We also advise you to speak with fellow allotmenteers - they are full of experience and will give you tips!

Q. i can no longer look after my plot.

A.  In case this happens, it would be best to contact your site representative to discuss the next steps.

Q. CaN I HAVE A POND?

A.  Unfortunately, we don’t allow ponds.

Q. CaN I CREATE PATHS from stones?

A.  No. Stone paths and piles are not allowed. Stones aren’t bad!

Q. Can i bring my dog to the site?

A.  Dogs are allowed on site but must be kept on a lead.

Q. AM I ALLOWED TO BURN WEEDS ON MY PLOT?

A.  We do allow bonfires, but we advise always with consideration to our neighbours.

Q. is camping allowed?

A.  No.

Q. Can we have BBQs?

A. Yes, but you must not leave any fires burning and always have a bucket of water handy. 

Q. Can we keep chickens?

A. No.

Q. Can we keep Bees?

A. No. 

Q. Are there communal tools?

A. Only mowers and strimmers. The club shop sells tools and Sue Ryder in Southdown often sells up-cycled ones.

Q. Can we have solar panels? 

A. Yes, at your own risk, the club is not insured if they are stolen. 

Q. Can we use a sprinkler?

A. No.

Q. Can we park inside Holcroft gates next to the shop?

A. Yes, but not on Sunday mornings when the shop is open as people need access to collect compost bags etc.

Q. Are there communal wheel barrows to move compost etc.?

A. At some sites, most people would let you borrow theirs.  

Q. Can we trap squirrels?

A. No.

Q. CAN I USE SLUG PELLETS?

A. No - poisoned slugs could be eaten by hedgehogs or birds.

Q. Can we fish at Riverside? 

A. No, there are council signs saying No Fishing. 

Q. Can I enclose my plot with a fence?

A. No. 

Q. Can I have a bench on my plot?

A. Yes, we think a seat is essential! 

Q. Are there toilets on the sites?

A. Only at Holcroft.

Q. Are there time restrictions when we can use the plots?

A. No.

Q. Can we have dumpy bags/ sq. mtr  bags of compost fertiliser delivered?

A. Yes, as long as you are there to receive them. 

Q. Is there electricity available on the plots?

A. No, there isn’t any.  

Q. Do you have a community sharing barrow for excess produce?

A. Yes, most plots do, please ask the site rep, you are free to start one! 

Q. Does the shop sell plug plants?

A. The shop sells all kinds of seeds, but it doesn’t sell plug plants.
