Cages or Frames

Plot holders may erect a year-round cage or frame structure 1.6m in height or above to net or support crops on their plot subject to the following conditions:

  • Size must be in proportion to the size of the plot.

  • Construction: timber or purpose-built metal supports which are dug directly into the soil; permanent foundations/footings are prohibited.

  • Structures must be neat, safe, and see-through if being covered.

  • The plot holder is entirely responsible for all aspects of security and safety and accepts all liability for the structure.

  • Structures must be well maintained and kept in a good state of repair and condition to the satisfaction of the Committee. If any structure is deemed to be in a poor state of repair, notice will be served outlining the repairs required and must be carried out within one month. Failure to carry out the repair may result in the loss of tenancy.

  • Structures must not inconvenience any other plot holders e.g. by overshadowing.

  • The exact proposed location and size of the structure must be agreed with your Site Representative and the Lettings Officer prior to installation.

  • Once permission has been given for the positioning of a structure such structure should not be moved and re-sited on the plot without permission from the Committee.

  • All structures must be removed by the plot holder on termination of the tenancy at the plot holder’s expense or when asked to do so by the Committee.

If you wish to erect a cage or frame structure above 1.6m in height or above to remain on your plot all year, please complete the application form and return to Lettings.
