Day at Plot 31 [photos]

It was a very sunny day on Tuesday and I felt that it was a perfect day to visit my plot. I got caught by Louise, who kindly invited me for a cup of coffee at Plot 31. As I was approaching the plot I couldn’t see any of them! But when I came closer, I noticed moving shapes in the greenhouse - the group was sheltering inside!

Brian has been a member since the very beginning and has written poems throughout the year. He read one on the day too - it made many of us giggle.

Brown Rice and Brussels Sprouts

My doctor prescribed a diet.
Of brown rice and Brussels sprouts.
He told me it would nourish my blood.
Of that he had no doubts.

At first I felt discomfort.
As the diet took effect.
The rice and Brussels made me run.
Far more than I did expect.

But I carried on with my daily task.
To ensure I would not lose out.
On the healing effect I would enjoy.
Of brown rice and Brussels sprouts.

I have even begun to enjoy it.
Especially the rice.
Still struggle with the sprouts you know.
Which is hardly a great surprise.

I will continue with this diet.
Until I have no doubts.
That my blood is fully nourished.
With brown rice and Brussels sprouts.

Brian has been coming to the plot for almost a year.

One of the exciting parts of the day was picking the cabbages - they looked amazing in the sunshine.

I got to speak with a few members and it was so clear that coming to the plot and working together is so great - lots of jobs get done and it’s always fun. Helen was saying that there’s no way you could be sad coming here. Everyone is so friendly and chatty, you can feel a true community spirit!

Here are some other photos of the plot, I can’t wait to see it when the spring comes!
